Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

By

1. Family Winemakers of California Festival: Small, family-owned California wineries are the stars of this sprawling tasting event, which features more than 750 different wines sourced from over 20 appellations within the state. For the first time, many wineries will also be selling wine on-site, allowing drinkers to take home their favorite bottles after tasting. There's also a special new iSip lounge, with a paired wine and food tasting led by sommelier Courtney Cochran. Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door. (Sunday, September 9, 3-6 pm, at Fort Mason Festival Pavilion, Marina.)

2. Social Kitchen & Brewery Brewmaster Dinner: After brewer and Master Cicerone Rich Higgins left the Sunset's Social Kitchen & Brewery earlier this year to start a consulting business, the restaurant put its monthly Brewmaster Dinners on hiatus while new brewer Kim Sturdavant (formerly of Marin Brewing Co.) found his sea legs. Now Sturdavant is ready to host his first solo dinner with chef Chris Wong, featuring dishes like salmon rillettes (paired with SF Session Ale), rosemary-roasted spareribs (paired with The Smell IPA), and olive-oil plum cake (paired with anniversary Oud Brune). Tickets are $48 and can be purchased here. (Tuesday, September 11, 7-9 pm, at Social Kitchen & Brewery, 1326 9th Ave., Inner Sunset.)

3. Palio d'Asti's Half-Price Wine Deal: In honor of screen siren Sophia Loren, who turns 78 on September 20, Palio d'Asti is offering half off all glasses of wine at lunchtime throughout the month of September. The restaurant says they're encouraging patrons to enjoy their lunch "Italian-style" (read: with booze), and with a selection of 18 glasses ranging from Barolo to prosecco, it shouldn't be too hard to oblige. (Daily through September 30, 11:30 am-2:30 pm, at Palio d'Asti, 640 Sacramento St., Financial District.)

4. Free Champagne on Saturdays at Georges: Seafood-oriented Georges used to shutter on weekends due to its Financial District location, but the owners have recently decided to extend dinner service and happy hour to Saturday evening. Happy hour (5-6 pm) features $1 oysters, and for the month of September, they're offering a free glass of Schramsberg Mirabelle sparkling wine to anyone who visits on Saturday evening (one per customer). (Saturdays through September 29, 5-10 pm, at Georges, 415 Sansome St., Financial District.)

5. Flavorpill Food Truck Happy Hour: Flavorpill is hosting another of their rad free happy hours at Public Works, featuring gratis Sapporo beer, bites from the Mayo & Mustard truck, and music by the Frail, Soft White Sixties, DJ Richie Panic, and DJ Carnitas. They'll also have a raffle to benefit Root Division. All you have to do is RSVP here. (Thursday, September 6, 7-11 pm, at Public Works, 161 Erie St., Mission.)
