Jazz & Genever: Ray Charles Edition

Little known fact: Ray Charles had a clause in his contract requiring a bottle of Bols Genever be in his dressing room prior to each performance. So it should be no surprise that Bols Genever is paying homage to the late, great musical icon by commemorating the 11th anniversary of his June 10, 2004 passing with a "Jazz & Genever" tribute to Ray Charles, tonight, at Burritt Room + Tavern. Expect Ray Charles covers from Terry Disley Rockin Jazz Trio and Bols Genever cocktails inspired by the American Jazz era. The party starts at 6 p.m. / / 417 Stockton

Bless the Beasts, and Booze, at North Beach Festival

'Tis the season for neighborhood festivals, including this weekend's 61st Annual North Beach Festival, San Francisco's oldest street fair. In addition to placing five adult beverage gardens within stumbling distance of one another (three on Columbus, one on Green, one on Grant), organizers have brought together more than 150 booths and performers to offer a full, two-day line-up of live music, arts and crafts, food and drink, Italian street painting, and a kid's chalk area. But perhaps the best part of the event is the annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony in The Shrine of Saint Francis Assisi (610 Vallejo), on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. / / North Beach District

Bring a Crowd, Get a Boot at Schroeder's

It's not easy to find a bar in San Francisco that will welcome you AND your entourage on a Saturday night. But Shroeder's German restaurant will not only say, "Willkommen," they'll reward you with a boot full of beer. Make reservations online, mention the boot in the special requests section, bring your party of eight or more to dine on Saturday night, and you'll receive a famed "boot" of Spaten, on the house. If it's the Second Saturday of the month, you can also expect live music, bar games and staff in dirndls and lederhosen serving sauerkraut-laden specialties. It's as if Oktoberfest lost its calendar. / / 240 Front Street
