Eat It: Bar Agricole, Tomato Dinner and the Art of Eating

If we were spending August in Italy, we'd be celebrating ferragosto, a short holiday when Italians traditionally decamp to the beach. Alas.You may not be able to jet off to Positano, but you can get in the spirit by attending the ferragosto party at Piccino on August 15. They'll be a pig roast and thin-crust pizzas and, in the Italian tradition, the wine will be free flowing. No reservations are necessary.

Tomato Dinner at Macy's

Though the names of local farms grace most menus in this town, there aren't many outfits that have a vegetable—er, fruit—named after them. But Taste Catering has their very own tomato, the aptly named Taste tomato, and it will be the centerpiece of a meal at Macy's Cellar. For $50, you can enjoy a multicourse dinner prepared by Taste chef Chris Borges, made with the signature tomato, picked at the peak of the season. Only 30 tickets remain—book yours now.

Long-awaited Bar Agricole Opens

After years of planning and months of waiting, Bar Agricole will finally open to the public on August 16. Long-time bar consultant Thad Vogler's place celebrates farmstead spirits, so the cocktail list will be killer. But he's brought Mark Ellenbogen (formerly of Slanted Door) on to oversee the wine list and kitchen garden, and Brandon Jew (formerly of Magnolia) will be responsible for the food. 355 11th St.

Art of Eating at Omnivore Books
