Monk's Kettle Hosts Abita Brewing


Tonight, when you're ready to get your drink on, head over to Monk's Kettle. The brewpub is hosting Louisiana's Abita Brewing Company in a benefit for the Gulf Coast. The more you drink the more you help—75 cents of every bottle sold will go towards a charitable foundation to aid people affected by the oil spill, and in addition the restaurant will donate half the day's sales of Abita to the charity. The kitchen is getting in on the act with gumbo and crawfish and andouille pot pies.

Two For One at Arizmendi Bakery

Arizmendi Bakery, the worker-owned collective that brought us the chocolate "thing" and superlative shortbread, has just opened on Valencia street in the Mission. Chez Panisse Chef at Omnivore Books

David Tanis, chef at Chez Panisse, will be at Omnivore Books on October 23rd to chat with crowds and sign copies of his latest book, The Heart of the Artichoke. Stop by to meet him, ask him questions about Alice, and get his recommendations for his favorite spots in Paris, where he spends 6 months of the year. The event runs from 3-4 p.m. and is free.

Pig Pickin' at Fremont Diner

Need an excuse to get out of dodge? Sonoma's Fremont Diner has it: the first ever pig pickin' and farm dinner, happening this Saturday, October 23, from 6-9 p.m. The invitation says it's $80 for "dinner, etc."—knowing this place, the Southern-style feast will be something to behold (and inhale). CUESA's Farmers Market Cocktail Party

CUESA will be hosting the final farmers market cocktail hour of the season on October 27.
