The Eater Wrap: Quince's Finale, Top Cheffage and The Reborn Mayes
It's Friday, which means that it's probably time for the Eater Wrap, the wonderful weekly recap from Eater SF on all the happenings from the local restaurant scene.
1) One of the biggest (if not the biggest) openings of the fall will be the new Quince in the old Myth space. But before that happens, you might want to say goodbye to the restaurant's current Pacific Heights location. Its last day is September 19th; grab that resy.
2) Speaking of big fall openings, tiki mecca Smuggler's Cove is officially on the way, now that Hayes Valley fave Jade Bar has shuttered.
3) Wednesday was a new episode of Top Chef Vegas. And for one local cheftestant, that was the day that everything changed.
4) Urban Burger changed its name to Urbun Burger. That is all.
5) The City of San Francisco unveiled some preliminary plans for the vacant lots in and around Hayes Valley. One possibility includes temporary (three year) "pop up" restaurants. And word on the street is that Delfina might be involved.
6) For better or worse, it's been a banner year for the street food scene, but one of the earliest purveyors called it quits: Namu's Happy Belly Cart exited Golden Gate Park, taking its kimchi dogs with it.
7) When the historic Mayes Oyster House reopens, it won't exactly be the Mayes of old (as in 1867). Rather, it will include sushi, ceviche and miso glazes as it tries for a "global delicacies" angle. What could possibly go wrong?
