This week is all about going out and finding your food yourself: Forage for mushrooms, catch an eel or (if you're feeling lazy) break off a piece of the "Candy Stick."


Saturday, December 28

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to forage for edible mushrooms, now is the time. With decades of experience behind him, Patrick Hamilton will take you to either Point Reyes or the Sonoma Coast and teach you safe foraging techniques. Get fishy with Kirk Lombard on an inter-tidal, low tide walking tour along the San Francisco bay front shoreline. Learn the basics of how to “poke pole” for the flavorful Monkeyface eel, how to catch rock crabs and even how to throw a “Hawaiian casting net.” You’ll discover the best local mussel beds and stands of edible seaweeds. 2:00 p.m. $40. This is your last chance to see the an exact gingerbread and candy model of Candlestick Park before it and the Stick both become a thing of the past. Created by Pastry Chef Angela Salvatore, “Candy Stick” stands at two by three feet and one foot tall. Foodie! The Musical is a thorough skewering of eating habit, restaurants, trends, and food quirks that will have you gripping your stomach in laughter.
