Italian Traditions Return to Poggio 

Poggio chef Benjamin Balesteri is hoping to revive an ancient Italian tradition this winter: Bollito Misto is a customary Milanese winter meal where various cuts of meats are slowly simmered and served tableside with a variety of handmade sauces. Sounds delicious, right? For the second year in a row, Balesteri is recreating the authentic Northern Italian dish and serving it from an imported Italian carello tableside. Happy Hour at Jax Winery 

JAX Vineyards, a winery from Calistoga, has just opened their first public tasting room in SoMa.  Famous winemaker Kirk Venge— who distributes to Gary Danko, The French Laundry, The Breakers, Casa Tua, and Michael Mina—is at the head of the winemaking team. Check then out for happy hour from 4-8pm Wednesdays through Fridays. They'll astound you with tastes, flights, glasses, and bottles of wine to enjoy on the premise as well as bottles to go (and don't forget a cheese plate!). 326 Brannan Street, San Francisco 

Dashi and Katachi: Essence of Japan

Dashi, as any ramen aficionado knows, is the legendary broth of Japan, the foundation for both Japanese cooking and culture. Katachi is the coming together of form and meaning in everything from activities to products. Dashi Katachi, which runs from January 21 through February at Heath Ceramics, is a chance to explore both. On Friday, January 23, join the opening reception to celebrate the essence of modern Japan through the eyes and hands of talented Japanese makers who are reinterpreting traditional Japanese crafts. Then, go even deeper with intimate, hands-on Katachi workshops focusing on traditional Japanese skills that bring together form and meaning. Spirit Tastings at Spoonbar

Mingle with Spoonbar's bar manager Tara as she hosts some of the top distillers in the region for an intimate tasting and talk.
