Foodie Updates: The State Bird Spinoff, Bourbon & Branch Team Invading North Beach, and More

This week in restaurant and bar news we have word that the ever-expanding Future Bars empire (Bourbon & Branch, Swig, Tradition, Local Edition, Rickhouse, etc.) is going to grow once more into North Beach, and some more news about Tosca and the State Bird Provisions next-door spinoff, The Progress.

First off, we just told you last week about Tupper & Reed, the newest project from the Bourbon & Branch guys over in Berkeley, in the former Beckett's. Well, it turns out they have not one but three new projects up their sleeve. First off, as the Business Times and Eater report, they're taking over the Jazz at Pearl's space next door to Tosca, completing what has been an almost wholesale upheaval in the neighborhood in the last few years. Now, not only can you drink fine beverages and eat fine foods at Comstock Saloon, Coi, 15 Romolo, and the soon-to-open Tosca, but there will be a cocktails-with-reservations spot there too, with the name still TBA. Also, they're going to be open two more branches of their high-end booze emporium Cask: one in Rincon Center, and one on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland. [SF Business Times, Eater]

Then, right next door, Tosca should be opening next week if all goes smoothly. 7x7 hears word that October 2 was the goal, but we all know that these dates can shift so don't hold them to it. We should have more for you on the menus, etc., shortly. [7x7]

Also, in the next few years, Hayes Valley and the Western Addition will be getting a new grocery store, which is planned for the ground floor of a big new development at Fulton and Octavia. [Hayeswire]

Over on Fillmore, Eater chats with State Bird chefs and co-owners Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski and finds that though they have not set a date for the reopening, post-expansion, of State Bird, it will be mid-Octoberish. And as for The Progress, their next-door spinoff, it's been kind of slow to progress! They're thinking there will be a couple months more work on it after State Bird reopens, so sometime in the winter, after New Year's. Stay tuned. [Eater]
