Hecho en SF: Not Your Typical Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Enjoy Cinco de Mayo in style this Sunday at the Third Annual Hecho en San Francisco, a celebration of local Mexican food and drink brought to you by our friends at Tacolicious. Held outdoors in front of the scenic Ferry Building, this party is not your typical Cinco de Mayo celebration. Guests will savor handcrafted tequila cocktails and tasty antojitos from a selection of small, local businesses, artisans, and food purveyors, many of them from La Cocina’s business incubator program.

Taste the food of Puebla from La Torta Gorda, artisan jello shots from Sweets Collection, posole salad from Rancho Gordo New World Specialty Foods, and (for adventurous eaters) edible insects from Don Bugito. Nopalito will make their Nayarit-style ceviche, and Tacolicious will serve freshly pressed tortillas from La Palma Mexicatessen filled with braised meats and fresh-from-the-farmers-market veggies.

No Cinco de Mayo celebration would be complete without a little tequila, so Tacolicious has enlisted the help of some local talent to create delicious cocktails such as Casa Noble’s Tierra Fuega, crafted with fresh pineapple and fiery bitters by bartender Darren Crawford. There will also be cold beer and even colder frozen reposado sundaes from Frozen Kuhsterd.

In addition to the unlimited bites and drinks, there will be hands-on activity stations where you can hand-press tortillas and create a custom salsa to take home. There is also a chance to win amazing raffle prizes, including premium tequila flights from Casa Noble and Herradura, cooking classes from La Cocina, and an expenses-paid trip to Mexico for you and a friend to visit a tequila distillery in the hills of Jalisco. Raffle tickets will be $10 each and are only available at the event.

Hecho en San Francisco takes place this Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, outdoors under the south arcade in front of the historic San Francisco Ferry Building. The $55 ticket gets you all the food and drink you desire, with proceeds benefitting CUESA and La Cocina.
