Kasa 2 Comes To The Marina
Though the doom-and-gloom restaurant talk is completely warranted, since plenty of great restaurants have closed in the last six months, it's nice to see, occasionally, places that are doing well against the odds—or because of them. Kasa Indian Eatery is one of those places. The first location, on 18th street near the Castro, quickly drew a devoted local following (we included them in our Best Cheap Eats story in August of 2008) and it's easy to see why: wholesome, affordable Indian food is pretty hard to resist.
So we were excited to hear that the Kasa team—comprised of first-time restaurateurs Anamika and Suresh Khanna and Tim Volkema—had plans to open a second location in the Marina (3115 Fillmore). As co-owner Suresh Khanna wrote, "We have to sell a heck of a lot of $4.50 kati rolls to make a living for two families in San Francisco." Indeed. If all goes according to plan, expect the new location to open in the next few days. The menu will be the same, but this location will have expanded beer and wine options and more seating. We suspect it will prove to be just as big a hit in the Marina as it has been in the Castro.
