Market Watch: CUESA's Drool-Worthy Spring Breakfast Menu
One of my favorite times of the year at the market is when the first cherries of the season show up at the Hamada Farms’ stand, signaling the first stone fruit of the season. This week raspberries will be available at Yerena Farms, and some early varieties of peaches will be on hand from Kashiwase Farms, which returns to market this Saturday.
With new seasonal treats showing up each week, there is no better way to celebrate and sample all the tasty fruits of the late spring market than at CUESA’s 12th annual Spring Breakfast. On Saturday, May 12, join us under the north arcades at the Ferry Building, as CUESA and Bon Appétit Management Company prepare a feast made with ingredients sourced directly from the farmers and artisan food producers who sell each week at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.
The breakfast menu this year features an asparagus and farmers cheese scramble and an artichoke and leek frittata, both made with pastured eggs, as well as fresh fruit and cheese platters, yogurt with honey and granola, and Swedish-style oatmeal pancakes served with our own mixed berry syrup. Rounding out the menu, we have pork and maple sausages from 4505 Meats, sage breakfast sausage from Fatted Calf, roasted potatoes with spring onions, and a market salad with roasted baby beets and fresh shallot vinaigrette. There will also be pastries from the folks at Della Fattoria and Downtown Bakery, and a selection of market jams and other goodies to enjoy. In addition to coffee and tea, this year we’ll also be offering an array of freshly squeezed citrus juices and a make-your-own-mimosa bar.
Many of the farmers and vendors at the market will be in attendance to break bread with you and share stories from their own farms and businesses. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why not have yours alongside the people who make it all happen?
There will be two seating’s for this year’s breakfast, one at 9 am and another at 11 am and tickets are $45 each, or $15 for kids under 12. All proceeds from the Spring Breakfast benefit CUESA and our educational programs like the free weekly cooking demonstrations, low-cost hands-on cooking classes and farm tours. Money raised will also go towards funding our Schoolyard to Market program which you can check out in person post breakfast as the students from Life Learning Academy will be in the market that day selling veggies and plant starts grown at their school farm on Treasure Island.
