Market Watch: Eggnog Almond Brittle, Oysters and More Holiday Fixings
Lulu Meyer, associate director of market operations, gives us the skinny on the fat of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.
It’s hard to believe the Thursday market has been open for less than a year. The local and national press, as well as food bloggers far and near have declared it a hit! This market was a personal labor of love for me and I’m thrilled to see what it offers each week—from unique lunch specials to the ever-changing bounty of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
Today, Christmas Eve, the Thursday market will be fuller than usual just in time to pick up everything you need to kick off a perfect holiday weekend including charcuterie from the Fatted Calf, heirloom beans from Rancho Gordo, oysters from Hog Island Oyster Co., sun-dried fruits and vegetables from Everything Under the Sun, and a jar of holiday honey from Marshall’s Honey Farm. Farmer Gary Alfieri of G.L. Alfieri Farms will be joining us with packages of nuts and his latest creation, eggnog almond brittle and
other festive items like gingerbread men cookies, cranberry-apple cider sorbet and holiday wreaths will be on hand.
Tacolicious, Pizza Politana, 4505 Meats, Roli Roti, Captain Mike, and Namu will be serving up delicious breakfast and lunch items for weary shoppers. I plan to start my Christmas Eve off with a warm plate of huevos rancheros from Tacolicious and hot chocolate from Blue Bottle and then shop for cippolini onions and potatoes to roast, greens to braise and something meaty from Fatted Calf to take home for Christmas Eve dinner.
A complete list of all the Christmas Eve market sellers and offerings can be found on the CUESA website. The Saturday market is closed this week but will re-open on Saturday January 2nd. We will be open both Tuesday and Thursday of next week from 10 am until 2 pm.
