Market Watch: Holiday Gifts to Harvest
If anyone has the inside sccop when it comes to the Ferry Plaza Farmers market it's Lulu Meyer, associate director of market operations at CUESA. You'll see her at the market, rain or shine. Every week, she'll be giving us her short list for the market—just in time for Saturday shopping. Go to cuesa.org for more information about farmers, what's in season and market goings-on.
The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market has a little something for everyone on your list and all your purchases go toward supporting local farmers and artisans! Here’s what I’ll be picking up for my loved ones:
1. Apple Balsamic Vinegar from The Apple Farm, perfect for salad dressings and sauces
2. Knife-sharpening gift certificates from Critical Edge to keep everyone on point.
3. An assortment of rose petal, lavender and spearmint sugars from Allstar Organics for the baking aficionados in my life
4. Oranges and clementines from Hamada Farms and Olsen Organics make the perfect sweet and sustainable stocking stuffer
5. Northwest-style smoked white salmon lox from Captain Mike’s for my dad, who being Swedish, will enjoy his on a nice piece of rye bread with a bit of dill and a cold shot of Aquavit on the side.
For the next two weeks CUESA will also make shopping at the market extra easy with a free gift wrapping booth staffed by a team of volunteers. While you’re there, throw in a reusable Ferry Plaza tote bag, a signed copy of the San Francisco Ferry Plaza Farmers Market Cookbook or a package of gift coins good for use at the Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday markets. We’ll also have a handy list of gift ideas that will please all the sustainable food lovers on your list.
