Post-Prohibition Cocktails at Stookey's Club Moderne

By

Something mysterious and wonderful is happening at the corner of Bush and Taylor. After a host of local bars came and went (Royal Tug Yacht Club and Yong San Lounge, to name a few), the recently opened Stookey's Club Moderne aims to breathe new life into the centrally-located space, thanks to '30s-inspired decor, smartly dressed bartenders, and a cocktail menu that will soon be the envy of many a mustachioed bartender.

While it's impossible to walk down a SF street without passing by an era-specific bar, Stookey's delivers nostalgia without any of the schmaltz. The brainchild of Leslie Cole, Aaron Cole, and Tim Stookey (known for his long-time stint as bartender at the renowned Presidio Social Club), Stookey's Club Moderne delivers an experience straight out of a post-Prohibition era diner—if said diner's patrons were incredibly sleek and chic. Think red cocktail tables, endless mirrors, art deco fixtures, porthole windows, and a prominently displayed portrait of the era's legend, FDR himself.

Check out their just-launched website, then stop in for a classic tipple done right, whether it's a sazerac, pisco punch, mai tai (seriously, try it), or the club's own classic 20th Century. Bow tie optional.

Tuesday-Sunday, 4:30pm-2 am. 895 Bush (at Taylor), Tenderloin
