East Bay Eats: Tapas in San Leandro, TrueBurger Redux, and Restaurant Week

By

Burgers and tapas and Restaurant Week galore! It's all happening in the East Bay, folks.

Oakland Restaurant Week kicked off with a bang yesterday, featuring hundreds of top Oakland dining destinations—indulge in three-course prix fixe menus ranging from $20-$40 (generally, you're getting about 25% off regular a la carte items) at both lunch and dinner. We're particularly excited about favorite spots like B-Side BBQ, Hog's Apothecary, and Penrose. Check out the full list of participating restaurants, preview menus, and make reservations here; Restaurant Week runs through January 25.

Also happening in Oakland: much-loved local burger joint TrueBurger has opened their second location at 41st and Broadway. They're still slinging their delectable brand of high-quality, low cost burgers and shakes with one hugely significant addition: garlic fries.

Steak wrap at Yalla.

Fast-casual Mediterranean joint Yalla is currently open for business in Pleasant Hill, offering a selection of wraps, salads, and Mediterranean plates. All include your choice of protein, ranging from Turkish-spiced lamb and beef to "Shalafel," a "Yalla original" skewer with half falafel, half chicken shawarma. Toppings and spreads include sumac-spiced onions, hummus, chermoula, harissa, and more.

Down in San Leandro, The Vine Wine & Tapas has gotten a full-on menu revamp courtesy of Michael Nguyen, formerly of The Broken Record in San Francisco. Nguyen launched his winter menu last week, which features updated Spanish classics like patatas bravas with sage aioli, and creative delicacies including drunken chorizo (chorizo simmered in brandy), and lemongrass-kiwi marinated chicken skewers.

Chargrilled Veggie + Penne at Veggie Grill.

Finally, Veggie Grill opened their newest location in Walnut Creek this Wednesday, January 14. With the opening comes a brand-new, seasonally-appropriate menu, which includes 9 dishes that are all under 600 calories (plus, high in protein and veg-centric).
