Silicon Valley Foodie Update: Cowboy Fishing and Beer Week Galore

By

This week is all about the beer — SF Beer Week, specifically, which is taking the South Bay by storm with a wide array of brew-fueled events. But seeing as how you cannot live on beer alone (we applaud you for trying), it's worth noting that there is a new steakhouse in Campbell for your meat-eating enjoyment, and a fresh-out-of-the-water seafood-centric pub in Half Moon Bay.

But first: Beer Week. There is an ovewhelming amount of beer events happening all over the South Bay (and conveniently, the SF Beer Week schedule page allows you to search by region). We suggest that you pick your pleasure, but some that jumped out at us include the Craft Can Invitational at Devil's Canyon Brewing in San Carlos on Saturday February 7 (which also includes the launch of Maverick Brewing Co.'s Tunnel Vision IPA in 16 oz cans); and the Downtown Burlingame Beer Walk on Wednesday, February 11. We're also keep an eye on events at Grape & Grain in San Mateo, the Rose & Crown in Palo Alto, Ale Arsenal in San Carlos, and the Refuge in San Carlos and Menlo Park.

Down in Campbell, Willard Hicks Restaurant opened its doors in Campbell on Tuesday, February 3. The new American steakhouse comes from the owners of Bay Area chain Opa!, and promises steaks and chops along with cocktails and shareable starters like baby back ribs and crab cakes.

Half Moon Bay is now home to a new pub slinging craft beer and fresh, locally caught fish. The team behind sustainable fishing outfit Cowboy Fishing Co. has opened a pub of their own showcasing locally caught crab (that they catch) and beer (that they brew). Owner (and Captain) Tom McGuirk tells us that his goal is "to do a few things, and do them very well." Food offerings will be 100% seasonal, which includes crab cakes, crab ravioli, buckets of crab, local ranch sliders, and fresh salad. They plan to focus on salmon, halibut, and tuna when crab season ends. There are two of their own beers on tap plus 12 others, primarily made up of fellow local brewers like Half Moon Bay Brewing and Devil's Canyon. Cowboy Fishing officially opened on Thursday; currently, they are open Thursday-Saturday, with Sunday-Wednesday dedicated to family, fishing, brewing, and maintenance, respectively. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.
