Sink Your Claws Into These Lobster Rolls

Love lobstah rolls? Here are five new rolls you can find around the Bay.

Farallon

This high-end downtown spot has just launched lunch service in the Jellyfish Lounge and Oyster Bar, and one of the star items on the menu is, you guessed it, their lobster roll. For $18, you get a buttery housemade brioche bun stuffed with buttered lobster and fried shallots. Because, butter. (You know, you really should get a glass of wine with that.) 450 Post St.

Ferry Plaza Seafood

Freshly open in their new North Beach digs (you will recognize them from their previous outpost in the Ferry Building Marketplace), the menu sports a variation on a lobster roll, more of a sandwich really (AQ, around $25). Maine lobster meat is dressed to order with tarragon butter and aioli, served on an Acme Bread sweet loaf with pickled vegetables. (You can walk it off on a hike up to Coit Tower.) 653 Union St.

Head across the Bay to this newly opened and casual spot in Jack London Square in Oakland (from the partners at Bocanova). On the menu: a Maine lobster roll ($21) on a housemade pretzel bun with coleslaw. Grab a seat at the raw bar, or even better, enjoy your meal alfresco (score, they’re open for lunch). There’s a full bar, too. 336 Water St., Oakland

Lobsta Truck

You’ll find this truck all over the Bay Area, with a couple visits to SF each week. The buttery split-top rolls (flown in from back east!) clock in at just $14, which means you’ll have money for a whoopie pie for dessert. You can get your Boston lobster topped with hot drawn butter or seasoned mayo, and don’t forget some Cape Cod chips on the side. Then again, there’s also a really good crab roll…

New England Lobster Company

For the most classic lobster roll in the bunch, this no-frills market and eatery will hook you up, with Maine lobster flown in daily (and since they are wholesalers, the price is right). Folks in the 650 have better access to their truck (follow along on Twitter), or hit up the recently opened Market & Eatery in Burlingame, where you can get their classic roll with chips for $17.50. It’s so worth the trip! 824 Cowan Rd., Burlingame
