Tony Gemignani Opens Slice House at AT&T Park

By

Will someone please take us out to the ballgame? The weather is prime for a balmy, beer-soaked evening, and the king of pizza is slinging slices at AT&T Park starting at tonight’s Giants-Dodgers series opener. What more could you ask for on a hot summer night?

If you don’t know who Tony Gemignani is by now, you’re about to—fresh off of winning the award for Best Pizzeria in America by Forbes magazine, the Fremont native, 11-time World Pizza Champion, and owner of no less than six pizza restaurants (including Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, Capo’s, Tony’s Coal Fired Pizza in North Beach) is opening an outpost of Slice House in AT&T Park. Starting tonight, grab a New York slice of cheese or pepperoni ($6.50 each), which Forbes says, “would be a favorite in pretty much any Big Apple neighborhood.” Gemignani plans to expand the menu eventually with items like a Chicago Italian beef sandwich and stromboli.

Per Gemignani’s style, this isn’t your average ballpark setup, and he’s taking the opportunity seriously—the lord of the ovens (there are seven at his flagship) brought in two double-stack brick ovens from Italy capable of cooking four 20-inch pies at a time, which means less wait time. He’s also requiring that the dough is made on site by employees that have trained with him at Tony’s in North Beach. After all, he’s got expansion in mind—we may see more Slice Houses in the park if all goes well.

Find Slice House it on the View Level, Section 314 near the Tres taco stand.
