This Week's Events: Street Food, Movie Nights and Fried Chicken
The Dinner Of Champions
On August 13th, the 18 Reasons crew has convinced some of the latest additions to the burgeoning SF street food scene to stop by the gallery. Go on, make a dinner of cookies from Cookie Wag, bacon potato chips from Who’s Your Daddy and gobs from Gobba Gobba Hey—without having to track their whereabouts on Twitter. We won’t tell.
A Feast For the Senses
If the weather holds, come Friday, August 14, it’ll be a mighty nice night for a movie screening at Charles Chocolate in Emeryville. All summer long, they’re showing food films and serving caramel corn—this Friday, it’s Babette’s Feast and caramel corn with candied cacao nibs. Bring your own chairs, blankets and snacks—the event is free, but you should RSVP here.
There are a lot of reasons you should attend the YBCA’s free “What’s the Big Idea?” event on Saturday, August 15, including Cuban surf rock, a Burning Man altar builder and screenings of loads of short films. But the real reason we’ll be there? To chow down on the food for sale by Little Skillet, which will include their signature fried chicken, pulled pork sliders and sliders stuffed with goat cheese and fig-onion jam, grilled corn, spiced peanuts, heaps of watermelon and miniature pecan pies and red velvet cupcakes. A big idea indeed.
Swine Is Fine
Orson is once again pulling out all the stops for their Pig and Booze dinner on August 19th. The menu hasn’t yet been released, but you can be assured it’s a veritable cornucopia of porcine goodness, paired with a plethora of libations, totaling four courses in all (and yes, pork does make its way into the dessert course). Dinner is $35 (read: a very good deal), with cocktail or wine pairings an additional $30. Sooee!
Street and Savory
Plan ahead—August 22 you’ll want to be spending the day at the first-ever San Francisco Street Food Festival—chowing down on delicious eats from over 20 vendors and hanging out in the beer, wine and cocktail garden sampling Duggan McDonnell’s creations. But for ten days starting on August 17, you can bid on crazy silent auction items (with proceeds benefiting La Cocina): everything from a private dinner in your home cooked by Craig Stoll of Delfina to a day spent working in the kitchen at Chez Panisse. Get in on it—Christmas is right around the corner.
