18th Street Block Party
If you don't feel like crossing the bridge to the Eat Real Festival weekend, stick closer to home and check out the 18th Street Block Party this Saturday, August 28. Food, beverages, pie contests and more, served up from some of the block's best residents, including Kasa, Bi-Rite Market & Creamery, Tartine Bakery, Out the Door (their commissary is on 18th), El Huarache Loco and more. The event is free and runs from 12-4 p.m. between Dolores and Guerrero.

SPUR's Young Urbanists: Urban Farming 101
On August 28, the SPUR Young Urbanists will be hosting Antonio Roman Alcala of Alemany Farms for a conversation on urban farming. The event begins at 11:30 a.m., after which attendees will have a chance to practice their skills by volunteering at Alemany Farms from 1-3 p.m. The talk is $20.

La Cocina Silent Auction
You have until the end of the day tomorrow, August 26, to make your final bids for any one of the amazing items up for grabs in the La Cocina Silent Auction. Learn to butcher from Americano chef Kory Stewart. Get a hands-on lesson in pupusa making. Have a guided tour of Indian markets, followed by a homestyle Indian meal, prepared by the Kasa team. There are still great deals to be had, and all the money goes straight to support La Cocina's programming. Bid now!

Hapa Ramen at Bar Tartine
I know you're probably still planning your Labor Day escape, but rest assured that when you return there will be good food waiting for you. Beginning September 6, Hapa Ramen will be serving up their noodles at Bar Tartine each Monday night all month long.

Monday Brunch at Out the Door Bush Street
If, like me, you hate waiting in line for brunch on Sunday (and you're one of the lucky few who have a flexible Monday schedule), you'll be cheered to learn that you can now order brunch at OTD Bush on Mondays as well--rice cake scramble, coconut sticky buns, the whole (proverbial) enchilada. And since Monday is usually the cook's day off, you're likely to see some familiar faces amongst the patrons.
