Special Sake Dinner at Nombe


Lovers of sake should book a seat at Nombe's special dinner on August 18th. The restaurant will be serving four different sakes from the Miyasaka family of Suwa, Nagano, a tenth generation sake clan, accompanied by dishes prepared by chef Balla, including grilled rib-eye and squid and heirloom tomatoes with shiso. Pickles and More at the Jewish Contemporary Museum

On August 19 the Jewish Contemporary Museum is hosting a special evening--for the $5 cost of admission, visitors can stock up at the gourmet pickle bar (and pick up tips from expert picklers onsite), enjoy snacks from Bi-Rite Market and hear Jane Ziegelman, author of 97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement, read from her book. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. (the reading is at 7:30 p.m.)

San Francisco Street Food Festival

Like street food? The second annual SF Street Food Festival will take place this Saturday, August 21, in the Mission. Sample tacos, meatball heros, pupusas, tamales, ramen, fried chicken and more at this one-day feeding frenzy. Hang out in one of three bars, with a cocktail made by one of the city's best bartenders. Bid on amazing silent auction items. All proceeds go to benefit La Cocina.

San Francisco Street Food Conference

After you've gotten your fill at the festival, feed your mind at the first-ever Street Food Conference, taking place Sunday, August 22 and Monday, August 23 at the Hotel Vitale. Panels will cover ever aspect of street food and featured speakers include writer and food truck enthusiast John T. Edge, former New York Times restaurant critic Molly O'Neill and local chefs Charles Phan and Mourad Lahlou. The conference kicks off with a brunch at Americano on Sunday, where chef Kory Stewart will go head to head with La Cocina street food vendors and bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas will be served.

SF Natural Wine Week

Traditional winemaking techniques will be celebrated during SF Natural Wine Week, which runs from August 23 to the 29. The list of participating wine shops and restaurants is long, but stand out event include a three-course dinner with natural wine pairings at Terroir on August 23 (two seatings, 6:30 and 9 p.m.) and a California natural wine tasting at Arlequin on August 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.
