Euro 2012 Finals: Who’s Playing and Where to Watch

After 24 games, the 16 teams in the European Cup have been narrowed down to eight. Favorites Germany and Spain both made it through, but Holland and Russia were casualties from the group stage. Here are the four quarter final matches and our favorite places to watch them.

Portugal vs Czech Republic
Having survived the Group of Death, the Portuguese will be going into the game brimming with confidence. The Czechs are coming off two straight wins and topped their group after capitulating to Russia in the opening match. It promises to be a good game.
Where:Rosamunde’s Sausage Grillin the Mission has a big screen and a fantastic array of beers and sausages to give you that true Czech vibe. 2832 Mission Street.

Germany vs Greece
There is something fitting about this matchup. Greece has had an amazing week - their election results look set to keep them in the Eurozone, while a surprise win over Russia kept them in Euro 2012. After topping the Group of Death with three straight victories, the Germans are my tip for the competition. They should see off Greece without too much trouble. Stranger things have happened, though.
Where:Schroeder’sis the largest German restaurant on the West Coast. There should be a healthy contingent of German fans present as well as a fantastic assortment of German beers on tap and a good lunch menu. 240 Front Street.
Mad Dog in the Fog, though not specifically a Greek bar, should still attract a good amount of supporters from both teams. 530 Haight Street.
When: Friday, June  22 @ 11:45am

Spain vs France
Tournament favorite Spain is matched up against geographical neighbor France. Coming off a 2-0 loss to Sweden, France will definitely go into the match as the underdogs. It looks set to be a fantastic game.
Where:El Farolito Bar in the Mission should be a good place for Spanish supporters to watch the game. The themed soccer bar should attract plenty of supporters and the cheap Mexican food next door is a bonus. 2777 Mission Street.
When: Saturday, June 23 @ 11:45am

England vs Italy
This is another mouth-watering encounter. The Italians are playing some of the nicest football they have played in years, while England managed to hustled through and top Group D.
Where: Lower Haight will be bustling with soccer fans this Saturday and the Mad Dog in the Fog will be overflowing with passionate supporters. Kezar will also be packed with loud English supporters, and probably a smattering of Italian ones. 770 Stanyan Street.
When: Sunday, June 24th @ 11:45am
