Fashion Week(s): a Look Back and a Look Ahead

The first in what will be nearly 10 days of local fashion events from two different efforts to revive fashion week in San Francisco took place over the weekend, when local style fans descended upon the Vitaminwater Social Club for Fashion Week – The Reinvention. This week, a fashion-related event takes place every night as Chic Fashion Week gets underway. Below, we lay out what’s ahead.

Monday: Models, photographers, vendors and other fashion industry folks gather tonight at Matrix Fillmore for a mixer enhanced by the sounds of DJ Mei Lwun.

Tuesday: A free-to-attend trunk show at Wonderland boutique offers shoppers the chance to buy from Chic Fashion Week vendors.

Wednesday: Live body painting, wine and cheese and an art exhibition are among the reasons to stop by the art-meets-fashion presentation tonight at the Artists Alley. Suggested cover donation: $10.

Thursday: A benefit in support of Until There’s A Cure brings an evening of fashion for a good cause to Slide, where a fashion show featuring looks designed to raise awareness around HIV/AIDS will take center stage.

Friday: A Charleston Pierce-hosted preview event featuring apparel by Monique Zhang, Tayebi Naffissa and Picky Studios takes place tonight in the Haight. Suggested cover donation: $20.

Saturday: The week’s main event puts 12 designers on the 40-foot runway at The Galleria (tickets $40-$75). Participating in the line-up are Miranda Caroligne, Tosca Soraya, Alexandria von Bromssen, Kitty Andrews and more.

Sunday: Student and emerging designers have their chance to shine during an afternoon show at the Galleria. An after party at Project One Gallery follows in nearby Potrero Hill. (tickets $25-$35).
