In case you haven’t heard, The City’s newly arrived pop-culture attraction New People opened over the weekend in Japantown to hoards of Harajuku lovers, anime fans and film-goers. The 20,000-square-foot complex complete with a movie theater, art gallery, café and retail shops showcasing Japanese street fashion brands is three stories of wall-to-wall eye candy (seriously, even the walls in the stairwells are worth peeking at).

We popped in yesterday for a look. Our favorite floor? Fashion-driven level 2, of course. Here are five things we loved:

1. The intriguingly coquettish pastel-hued lace parasols at Baby, The Stars Shine Bright.

2. The optical-illusion of Siwa bags by Naoto Fukasawa. You’ll have to visit the first floor shop to see these crinkly, yet ultra durable paper bag totes in person, but you can find them online at a variety of retailers, including UK-based twentytwentyone.

3. Skinny Giraffe Ties in limited edition prints.

4. The serious assortment of way-beyond-the-basic black and white shirts dominating the racks at goth-driven Black Peace Now.

5. The amphibian-meets-intergalactic adventurer look of Sou Sou shoes, whose cleaved toe styling and clunky shapes are sure to spark a hot-or-not debate of proportions unseen since UGGs first appeared on the U.S. footwear scene.
