Extra Coating: Candystore Collective Winter Coat Drive

By

Generally speaking, the well-known maxim of give, and you shall receive refers to the intangible feelings of good will that come with helping, reaching out and extending oneself for the sake of others. We love those feelings. But sometimes, if we’re being completely honest, we appreciate a carrot. You know, an extra little bit of get-up-and-go to take us from wistfully pondering all the ways to do good in this world to, um, actually getting up and doing one of them. Candystore Collective’s Winter Coat Drive is just the mid-January kick in the pants we need to lend our support to a worthy local organization. Through Jan. 23, the Mission boutique is working with One Warm Coat to collect warm coats for the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics, a longtime local provider of medical and substance abuse treatment services to uninsured and under-insured people in need. Bring in a clean winter coat (sorry, hoodies don’t count) in decent repair, and the shop will give you 30 percent off any non-sale coat in the store. Don’t have a coat you can part with? You can always buy one from a local thrift shop to donate. Once you’ve done your good deed, dive into the racks, stocked with women’s outerwear from Lily & Jae, Tankus, Cheap Monday and Laura Dawson and men’s options from such labels as Trovata, Surface to Air and WESC. While you’re there, don’t miss the storewide winter sale, with items marked down 20 to 80 percent.
