Impeccably Dressed Bears Descend Upon Berkeley

This can only mean one thing: Walter Van Beirendonck is coming to town.

Yes, for the first time in his 25-year career, the ever innovative and always tongue-in-cheek menswear designer is showing his collection in the U.S. At the Berkeley Art Museum to be exact.

The bears we touched on before? They're of the Castro variety. For his S/S '10 WONDER collection, Van Beirendonck debuted his pastel-hued blazers, military-inspired pants, and even undies on a refreshingly  non-emaciated cast of bear models. And after what's sure to have been the most fun casting ever in the Bay Area, he's set to re-stage the show this Sunday for our viewing pleasure.

Though Van Beirendonck might not be a household name to those who don't live and breathe avant garde fashion, as an original member of the Antwerp Six (along with the likes of Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester) and deemed one of the most influential trendsetters in men's fashion, to put it lightly, this is a big $%#*ing deal.

So big, in fact, that we have an inkling there may be some surprise celeb guests in attendance, as it coincides with AAU's graduation festivities where they're honoring Van Beirendonck along with Suzy Menkes, Keanan Duffy, Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, and Patrik Ervell.
