New in Union Square: Johnny Bueno Color Studio

By

For hair cut, color and styling services that come with Bay views, a garden setting and the freedom to choose the music tinkling or blaring (your choice, natch) from the speakers during your time in the chair, look no further than Union Square’s newly-opened Johnny Bueno Color Studio.

“I basically look at my studio as a great place to do hair, but it’s also an art piece,” says Bueno, a master colorist whose resume includes four years at San Francisco’s Atelier Emmanuel and training at London’s Aveda Academy and Toni&Guy in France.

Bueno treats tresses to new hues (highlights are his specialty) in an Anthony Laurino-designed space outfitted with abstract and surrealist works of art, deco furnishings and custom hair stations inspired by old school rolling library ladders. An indoor mini garden of succulents lines a window offering views toward the ball park and beyond. Music delivered via Pandora changes throughout the day as clients pick their personal soundtracks on arrival.

For cuts and styling, clients head to the salon’s stylist Robert Gufler. Both Bueno and Gufler offer Brazilian Blowout treatments ($300 and up) and regular blow outs. Prices for partial highlights start at $150, while a full head will run you $195 and up. Cuts for men and women start at $55 and $65, respectively.
