Party Perfect

By

It’s that time of year again when I’m fielding those ubiquitous what-to-wear-to-the-office-holiday-party questions from family and friends. Is an LBD too expected? Is this mini-dress a little too mini? Is cleavage ever ok? (The answers to the questions should be no, probably and “definitely not.”)

No doubt, the annual office holiday party is tricky. With your boss and co-workers present, you want to be stylish and festive, but tasteful. You want to wear something that adds a little extra oomph to your typical daywear, but doesn’t cross the line over to post-party water cooler gossip. How to accomplish this fashion feat? Here are some tips— and a few looks I’ve been eyeing for our own upcoming 7x7 holiday bash— that are sure to have you looking professional and party-ready.

If you’re a classic girl with an affinity for the Little Black Dress, try a basic cut that has unexpected embellishment, such as this black satin shift by Development with a flattering square neckline, ruching at the bust, metallic insets and short organza puffed sleeves.

This Alice + Olivia mirrored jacket is a little more daring, but paired with a swingy tent dress and opaque tights, it offers coverage on top and a flash of holiday sparkle.

Showing a little leg works if the look is balanced with long sleeves and a high neckline, as in this Jovovich-Hawk Zoe dress, which is still sexy and chic. Its silk-floral fabrication in one of the season’s deep jewel tones has a chiffon overlay on the bottom hem that’s flirty and feminine.

Have to go quickly from day to night? Throw a jacket over this champagne-satin v-neck blouse by LaRok paired with skinny black slacks for the office. Shed the jacket, add some chandelier earrings, a cuff bracelet, a clutch and a pair of heels, and you’re instantly ready for the after-hours bash.
