Sidewalk Chic: Hooved Details in SoMa

By

Name: Carrie Pilto

Occupation: Curator

Spotted: Opening for the William Kentridge exhibit at SFMOMA, 7:08 p.m.

Wearing: Asymmetric pleated tunic (no label) purchased on "Fashion Avenue" in Harajuku circa 1998, turtleneck and trousers by agnès b., cloven hoofs by Martin Margiela

Favorite item you’re wearing and why? “The tunic found on ’ Fashion Avenue’ - for the memories of teenagers bearing infuriating Japanglish T-shirt slogans (think "rabbit snow"), and for its genteel refusal to wrinkle in my suitcase, or to go out of fashion.”

What’s an article that you’ve worn out but can’t bear to part with? “Friends I haven't seen in years will know me by my hopelessly scuffed Patrick Cox ankle boots, Paper Denim & Cloth jeans in shreds, thoroughly moth-eaten 1950s cashmere cardigan with three-quarter length sleeves, and worn Margiela hand-painted Burberry flea market raincoat Please fairy godmother...make these all new again - equivalents are not to be found in this world.”

Describe your morning routine: “Make love 'til noon, breakfast on the terrace, into the pool for a quick swim, walk my daughter to school, then head to the museum on MUNI.”

Why we love her look: Pilto’s effortlessly chic ensemble, polished off with quirky hooved footwear, is one you’d expect to find roaming the cobblestone streets of Paris.
