Vixens in Training: Perfect Your Pin-Up Style @ Bombshell Betty's Retro Styling Workshop
Brigit dress by Bettie Page Clothing ($145).
If you’re in love with pin-up style, you’re in luck. The retro looks of the 1940’s and 1950’s are easier to achieve in San Francisco than ever these days, thanks an upcoming retro hair styling workshop, a new store devoted to Bettie Page-inspired apparel and trusty favorites like Haight Street lingerie boutique Dollhouse Bettie and boudoir-themed parties for special events.
On Sunday, pin-up vixens-in-training can learn how to create 1940’s styles including victory rolls and pin curls during Bombshell Betty’s retro hair styling workshop taught by the woman behind Bombshell Betty Pin-Up Workshops and Burlesquercise dance classes. Cost: $45 per person.
This summer, dressing like a gal straight out of the 1950’s became easy as pie with the arrival of Bettie Page, a store offering new apparel based on retro styles ranging from high-waist capri pants to circle skirt dresses sporting cinched waists and curve-accentuating pencil skirts with hems just below the knee. The Haight Street shop is the third outpost for the company, whose other shops are in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Just down the street, those with pin-up style aspirations can build an authentic foundation with the vintage and vintage-inspired lingerie at Dollhouse Bettie. Silk tap pants, corsets and vintage slips accompany dressing gowns and garter belts, while a selection of retro-inspired undergarments from current designer labels keeps those looking for more contemporary options happy. Boudoir photography workshops are also offered through the shop and include a discount on lingerie purchases.
When you’re ready to embrace the pin-up ethos with several of your close pals, there’s Footsie SF, a company offering boudoir parties in a Potrero Hill studio space. Parties include style and accessory consultations, a photo shoot and 20 percent off lingerie purchases from Cow Hollow boutique My Boudoir Lingerie. Adds-ons such as makeup and hairstyling, food and bar services are available for more elaborate affairs.
