Freak Bikes, BMX Riders and More at the East Bay's Pedalfest

By

Bicycle festival season kicks into high gear this Saturday with the return of Pedalfest, the East Bay’s annual be-all bike party. From short-course BMX riding to aerial bicycle dance to a parade of freak bikes, this full day event celebrates all things bike.

Now in its second year, Pedalfest is really kicking into high gear this year, offering up enough tasty bike nibbles to satisfy any kind of rider. Race fans will be stoked to see the pro riders speeding around the mini and super-banked velo track in the middle of the party. Pedaling parents will dig on the kid bike rodeo. And foodies will be psyched for the bike-powered ice cream and oh, beer, plenty of beer.

So grab your steed and head across the Bay. The San Francisco Bay Ferry is offering free rides for anyone on bike, and there’s bike valet on the other end. If all that’s not enough—all proceeds from the New Belgium beer (yummm) go to the East Bay Bicycle Coalition to promote their work building bicycle boulevards (double yummm) and helping get bikes on BART all day.

See you at the party! And see you next month for San Francisco’s own bike and beer party, Tour de Fat.
