Five Holiday Markets That Are Good Enough to Eat

Five Holiday Markets That Are Good Enough to Eat

Gift giving can be tricky for some folks in your life (like people at work, or your therapist). But really, one gift almost everyone is happy to receive is the one of food—quality jams, or honey, or tea? Yes please! (And you end up supporting local vendors, also good.) These five upcoming markets have a bunch of tasty food gifts made by local vendors, which you can buy for someone else (and also spoil yourself with).

First up: On Saturday December 1st, check out the monthly Meet Market at Bluxome Street Winery. There will be a whole bunch of local vendors, from INNA Jam to Paulie’s Pickles, and you’ll be able to drink wine while shopping. Yes, wine. 1pm–5pm (12pm early entry for wine club members). 53 Bluxome St. at 4th St.

In Potrero Hill, the New Taste Marketplace returns on Saturday December 1st from 10am–3pm. There will be lots of food products to take home with you or gift for the holidays (be sure to check out the panettone from newcomer baker Marla Bakery, tea from Red Circle Tea, and granola from Nana Joe’s). There will also be a lot of vendors serving hot food you can eat on site—come hungry. St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church, at 500 De Haro St. at Mariposa.

Also this weekend: at The Bold Italic in Hayes Valley, be sure to swing by the Gift Shop with 5M Project. On Saturday December 1st and Sunday December 2nd, they’ll be hosting a bunch of local designers and craftspeople, with lots of quirky and handmade wares, from apparel to jewelry, home décor to food. Oh, and guess what? On Sunday, tablehopper will be there (yes, the writer of this post!) selling her cute vintage T-shirts. There will also be snacks, drinks, a photo booth, and Skee-Ball. Admission is free. Sat 11am–5pm and Sun 12pm–5pm. The Bold Italic, 34 Page St. at Franklin.

The Bazaar Bizarre will be on Saturday and Sunday, December 1st and 2nd this year. The bazaar features more than 200 local artists, designers, and craftspeople. For a full list of vendors, check here. New this year: they’ve got a special food mart lined up, with delicious gifts from the likes of Kika’s Treats and Double Dutch Sweets. The fair runs both days from 11am–6pm and is free to attend. 620 7th St. at Brannan.

And mark your calendar: next Friday December 7th from 1pm–7pm, La Cocina will be throwing its fourth-annual Gift Bazaar at the Crocker Galleria, so put that on your calendar too. A bunch of La Cocina businesses will be selling their wares (like NeoCocoa and Love & Hummus), along with some other tasty vendors. And Rye on the Road will be there, making it a perfect happy hour pit stop. Crocker Galleria, 50 Post St. at Montgomery.
