Don’t let the date scare you away, this Friday the 13th join Stella Artois in celebrating the best of Belgium. Renowned for its fantastic beers and food, this tiny European country is a hotspot for culture. In honor, the ‘Taste of Belgium Beer Festival festival will have a Belgian Beer Market, Mussels throwdown competition, beer school, Boules courts and live music. The event is free, but bring some cash for food and beer. From 4-10:30 p.m. @Fort Mason Herbst Pavilion.

Calling all cupcake-loving vegans. The Rock Paper Scissors Collective are throwing their 4th annual Cupcake bake-off. Contestants have been submitting their original vegan cupcake recipes, and the best have been chosen. At the event, cupcakes will be sampled and one piece of baked goodness will rise above the rest to take home the grand prize (which will be announced on the day). The party will also include a toothache photobooth, cupcake crafts, live music, a raffle, and tea compliments of SolidariTea. Entry is $5 1-4 p.m.2278 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland.

Many of the region’s best beers and BBQ will be at Fort Mason this Saturday for the 12th annual Breastfast Beer Festival. With more than 60 local microbreweries in attendance, you will be able to sample and compare hundreds of micro-brewed beers, enjoy delicious homemade barbeque, hear live music, as well as win some awesome prizes in the raffle. All proceeds go to the Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic, a public health clinic that provides free alternative medicine, supportive services and social services to women battling cancer and poverty. For all you bacon lovers out there, the Bacon Takedown is just the event for you. Rolling back into town for its second year, the Takedown consists of local chefs battling it out with each other for the main prize - a year’s supply of bacon! This year, each team will be given a whopping 15 lbs of bacon with which to win the audience's favor. The event costs $15 and includes free tasting of each team’s recipes as well as the option to vote for the winner. 2 p.m. Public Works, 161 Erie Street.

For just one night the Ferry Building will be transformed for a fabulous summer soirée. Chefs from San Francisco’s favorite restaurants will come together to create delectable hors d’oeuvres inspired by summer produce from the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market. The bites will be deliciously paired with Napa Valley wine, artisan cocktails, craft beer and soda. Guests will also enjoy a whole-beast carving station, a whimsical photo booth, and gypsy jazz. All the proceeds from the event will go toward CUESA's ongoing education programs, including free cooking demonstrations, low-cost kitchen skill-building classes and more.
