Start your evening off with a glass of wine and a gourmet cheese platter under the arches of the Ferry Building at a fundraiser for Women's Initiative, an SF profit which helps low-income women become entrepreneurs. Chef Bobby Gignilliat will demo small plates from around the world, including ahi tuna tartare in wonton cups, bacon-wrapped plums with a balsamic-honey glaze, and Mexican chocolate fudge brownies with cinnamon whipped cream.

Root Division is inviting the public to TASTE 2012,  to raise money for the MIssion-based nonprofit. From 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., guests will be treated to cuisine prepared on site from local chefs, including Starbelly's Adam Timney, Dosa's Lenny Gumm, and Ragazza's Sharon Ardiana. Wash it all down with drinks from bartenders from Rye and Dr. Teeth and Electric Mayhem.

The fourth annual Goat Fest is making its return to the Ferry Building with all things goat—cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and more. It's a family-friendly affair, with a litter of  baby goats from Redwood Hill Farm for petting and milking and cooking demonstrations.

Take a peek beneath the cork and under the rind on Discovery Street Tours' Science of Wine and Cheese walking tour. The two mile, two-and-a-half hour tour begins at Allyne park and winds its way through a host of SF neighborhoods before culminating with a bread and cheese picnic. Along the way, tour-goers will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at how biology affects the flavors in your favorite fermented foods. The tour begins at 1:30 p.m. and costs $65 per person.

Meals on Wheels of San Francisco is rolling out the star-studded lineup for their 25th Anniversary Gala. In the kitchen will be Matthew Accarino of SPQR, Charles Phan of The Slanted Door, and Nancy Oakes of Boulevard, to name a few. More than 60 premier California vintners pair wine with each of the three courses presented for dinner. Dessert will be served up by Yigit Pura, Jake Godby of Humphry Slocombe, and Kara Haspel LInd of Kara's Cupcakes. It probably won't be the cheapest dinner this week (tickets start at $450 per person), but proceeds from the gala fund roughly 350,000 meals each year for seniors who might otherwise go hungry.

In honor of its third birthday, RN74 is kicking of Sweet Week (from April 22 through the 28th). That means diners and pedestrians can indulge in specially-created desserts like Peanut Butter Mousse, Vanilla Beach Panna Cotta and an assortment of house-made French cookies. If you happen by during happy hour, enjoy selected $3 drinks, which will be available all night. And to turn back the clock to the restaurants's early days, RN74 is bringing back an item from its opening menu: Grilled cobia with Tokyo turnips, Marcona almonds and a sour-cherry nicoise olive emulsion for $17. 301 Mission St., 415-543-7474
