Game for the Fashion-Meets-Tech-Obsessed: Fashionista FaceOff

By

Warning to anyone with a style obsession and a Facebook account: there’s a new way to totally lose track of the next 45 minutes (or more) of your life. What’s more, it allows you to vie for international fashion domination (mwha-hah-ha) without spending a thing (at least at first). It’s Fashionista FaceOff, a new social game featuring local fashion celebs such as fashion show producer Charleston Pierce and stylist Keylee Sanders as judges.

Launched recently by Viroxoty Studios’ stylish men-about-town Joel Goodrich and Damion Matthews, the game is easy to play (and plenty addictive).

“More people are playing these games than watching TV,” says Goodrich of social media games, which are widely thought to be poaching the female-dominated audience that once supported daytime television programming.

As for Fashionista FaceOff, the game’s 38,000 players compete by shopping for clothing and accessories to create outfits according to the week’s theme using virtual fashion cash in the game’s boutiques, then head to a dressing room to outfit their models and send final looks to the runway and their Facebook walls. The more votes a look receives, the more fashion cash the player earns. More cash means more shopping – and more competition – ahead. The top players enter into an annual Fashionista of the Year competition, whose panel of judges includes the aforementioned Pierce and Sanders, as well as Goodrich and stylist Karen Tamblyn.

Those who want to shop ‘til their keyboard-addled fingers drop can purchase more fashion cash with a credit card (1,000 points = $1).

Particularly fun are the model customization features, which allow you to play god with your model’s hair style, skin tone, eye shape, lip pout, makeup hues and brow shape, just to name a few of the options.

Up next: we hear a pet boutique offering exotic furry companions, an art gallery with eye candy for decorating one’s dressing room walls and a second city for advanced players are due out soon.
