Giant LEGO Santa Yoda Build Kicks Off Today in Union Square

By

There is no try. There is only build, and let the building begin! Starting in just about an hour here, a ginormous LEGO Santa Yoda is being constructed in Union Square next to the Holiday Ice Rink. Two (of only 12) certified LEGO Master Builders will be on site, guiding the construction of the massive, 12' x 10' toy statue. The public is invited to help piece together the more than 6,000 oversized LEGO blocks, too, so stop by and get your build on.

The event, which is raising money for the Bay Area Boys and Girls Club, will run all weekend from 10am-6pm, until the magnificent Star Wars-based Santa is complete.  In true street art fashion, nothing gold can stay -- deconstruction will begin this Monday, so be sure to check it out this weekend.

The build will also serve as a countdown to the launch of LEGO's holiday site (live on Monday), where for every e-card sent, LEGO will donate a set (up to 1 million) of their iconic building blocks to the US Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. With the holidays just around the corner, it doesn't get much better than LEGO Santa Yoda for a good cause.
