Glamping in Gold Country: Inn Town Campground Now Open in Nevada City

By

If your idea of roughing it comes with linen-clad beds, a bath house, and artist-designed lighting, then make a reservation at Nevada City's new Inn Town Campground, where 15 glamping sites promise a plush place to crash after a day of play in the Sierra foothills.

Just opened by owners Erin and Dan Thiem, Inn Town Campground is an extension of Nevada City's Outside Inn, popular for its easy access to the Yuba River, exceptional road routes for cyclists, and miles of mountain biking and hiking trails.

Two miles from downtown, the year-round campground has 70 total campsites, the majority of which are meant for pitching your own tent. But for anyone looking to nurture their inner Eva Gabor, 15 customized sites bring a bit of style to green acres. Canvas tents are outfitted with custom beds and linens, furniture, and light fixtures created by a local artist, not to mention electricity. Outdoor seating and peaceful views are a given. An additional 15 sites are available for those with their own RV or camper.

Whether you shack up in style or opt to go old school, Inn Town has a few amenities you won't find at any old campground. The 3,000-square-foot heated Commons has a camp store, a kitchen (complete with modern appliances and cooking tools), laundry facilities, a TV room, and nooks for reading. There's also a swimming pool and BBQ area, as well as bath houses that are blessedly equipped with flush toilets, an indoor shower, and an enclosed outdoor shower. Two community wood-burning fire pits are located near the Commons, and the campground even plans for activities like movie nights.

“We’re excited to provide [campers] with a personalized camping experience they won’t find anywhere else,” says Erin Thiem. “Members of our community have come together to add elements of character specific to Nevada City—campers are sure to feel the welcoming spirit when they stay with us.”

Inn Town is now taking reservations for short-term stays (2-night minimum, 14 days max) starting this June, with rates starting at $45/night for tent sites and $90 for glamping tents (some sites are pet friendly for an additional fee). Website reservations will begin July 1.
