Hardly Strictly Bluegrass - Best of Friday

By

Just when you thought festival season was over, San Francisco’s season is just beginning. A nice little break since Outside Lands has us all revived and ready to go for this weekend’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park. We look forward to this fantastically free event every year. Three days of listening to some great tunes in the park. Now what’s better than that? Friday is a pretty tame and small schedule, but here are our picks for what not to miss.

MC Hammer, Star Stage, 11:30am: Just because we’re suckers for some classic Hammertime throwbacks, we’re definitely not going to be missing this one.

Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman, Banjo Stage, 3pm: We’ll take any chance we can get to peep this ex-Rage Against The Machine-er in his natural environment, the stage. He’s been really pulling out all the stops this year with his newest collaboration with local hip-hop phenom Boots Riley. With Boots being Oakland raised and all, we’ll be crossing our fingers for a “surprise” appearance.

Lyle Lovett & His Large Band, Banjo Stage, 5:45pm: What’s really not to love about this classic American country singer/songwriter? He’s adorable from absolutely every aspect, and he’s supposed to kill it on stage. We deem this an absolute must-see.
