One of the best things about going to Monterey County is all the great getaway choices waiting for you when you arrive. There are vineyards for wine lovers, tasty and healthy food options, miles of coastline for beach lovers and probably the world’s best known aquarium. If you’re a parent there’s even more reason to smile – because all of the above are family friendly.
Monterey County is a good place to hit the beach.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a hardcore beach lover or not, it’s hard to tear yourself away from scenic Carmel Beach. That usually leads to an afternoon or evening of wandering in Carmel-by-the-Sea. You can’t complain about that–but if you’re up for a relaxing change of pace, head to picturesque Carmel Valley.
This past weekend, we escaped on bicycles for a 20-mile bike ride to the beautiful seaside town of Montara.
We Bay Areans are lucky to live just a breath away from one of the finest aquariums in the entire world–the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Just down the road on Highway 1, visiting this aquatic wildlife wonderland is perfect for a day trip, but even better if you make a weekend out of it and stay at the Portola Hotel and Spa while you're in the area.
Monterey County may be best known for its scenic coast, famous aquarium and star-studded links, but 'wine destination' is fighting for a well-deserved spot in the ranks.
