Design Happenings This Weekend: Maker Faire, Mignonne and the Union Design Festival

By

It's Friday, y'all! That means time to get on your thinking caps (ours looks something like this) and start planning what you're going to do to have the best weekend ever. A few suggestions from yours truly:

  • Get your DIY fix this weekend when MAKE Magazine's Maker Faire returns to the Bay Area. Head over to the San Mateo County Expo Center this Saturday and Sunday to see the latest in craft and design, including art, inventions, demonstrations, and plenty of vendors, to boot. A few of our favorites, including ceramicists Diana Fayt and Ezme Designs, will be there too.
  • Home decor boutique Mignonne has been bringing a bit of Paris flea market style to Oakland for years, but after this weekend they'll be packing up their delightfully unique selection of home goods and moving on. The good news? The shop will be reopening in Berkeley some time around mid-June. The other good news? This Saturday from 12 to 7 the Oakland location will be having a big sale, with 30% marked off many items around the store.
  • If you'd rather not leave the city for your design fix, head over to Hayes Valley this Sunday for the Union Design Festival. We had a ball at the event last year, and are willing to bet this time around will be no different. Check out the full list of participating vendors here - it's long one!
