SF Fall Antiques Show This Weekend!
The local design blogs were atwitter this week with the possibility that the Alameda Flea, as we know it, might be no more. A mysterious notice on the website announcing the show canceled for this weekend (and the coming future) was quickly yanked, replaced with a vague sense of unease–and lots of questions. The President of Antiques by the Bay has since reported that the event is on as usual, and accused the company's co-owners of spreading the false word (find more information on the saga in this article from The Island).
As happy as we are to hear that things are still going down this weekend, we must say the prospect of traveling roundabouts to get there (thanks to the currently incapacitated Bay Bridge) makes going a little less appealing. Luckily for area antiques hunters, there’s another option. The San Francisco Fall Antiques Show is taking place this weekend at Fort Mason, and will include around seventy decorative and fine arts dealers from around the US and Europe. The show always has an amazing selection of quality pieces presented by some of the most knowledgeable and well-known antiques dealers out there, so it's worth a trip for, if nothing else, a good history lesson. This year's theme is 'Egyptomania', with an exhibit inspired by the King Tut show that's going on now at the De Young–though by no means does that encompass the vast styles of antiques that'll be available.
