Feather your Airstream Nest, the latest thing in #vanlife chicness

By

When Airstream rolled out its glamorous, retro-modern Globetrotter last year, we came this close to quitting our jobs and starting #vanlife IG accounts. But ringing in at 100 grand, life on the road felt just a bit out of reach.

But hold the phone, because the beloved maker of the famous Silver Bullet has just launched a petite dreamboat of a travel trailer at half the price. And it's just as sweet as can be.

Resembling your favorite pair of ski goggles thanks to the panoramic front windshield, the design-centric Nest exudes a more playful air than the larger Globetrotter. Made of fiberglass—a first in Airstream's 90 years of existence (though founder Wally Byam has been testing the material in prototypes since the 1950s)—and flooded with natural light thanks to eight windows and a skylight, the stylish road roost has stain-resistant soft white laminate accents and woven wall coverings that lend it a bright, minimalist feel.

There are two floor plans, including one with a U-shaped dinette that converts into a bed, but we'll opt for the one with the permanent Tuft and Needle mattress, thank you. In addition to the queen-sized bed, creature comforts include a seating area with a tufted banquette; handcrafted Italian laminated cabinetry for ample storage; dinette cushions made with stain-resistant Spradling vinyl upholstery; a stainless steel kitchen sink; a two-burner stove; and a microwave. It comes in your choice of two color palettes: ivory with earthtones, and robin's egg blue.

Even the bathroom is sparkling with a removable shower head, built-in soap dispenser, enclosed shelving, and a toilet. (There's also an extra exterior shower with hot and cold water.) Outside, a powered patio awning allows for the creation of an alfresco living space for daytime lounging in the shade, or relaxing late nights under the glow of the exterior LED lights.

Created with a love for modern design, the Nest is easy to tow (at 3,400 pounds), making it a fab roving abode for adventure seekers on a budget.

// Starting at $45,900, Nest is available at select dealers including Bay Area Airstream Adventures (Fairfield) and South Bay Airstream Adventures (San Martin). For more info, go to airstream.com/travel-trailers/nest.
