Jams We Love: 7x7's Weekly Playlist

By

For our new column "Jams We Love," we're turning you onto the songs that keep us going every day. We'll showcase a new playlist every Monday so you can start the week off right.

1. Mi Ami, "Out At Night"

Ever since this band became a bi-coastal duo about a year ago, we've been missing their chaotic live shows. But they're coming back this Saturday, Sept. 3 to Public Works for their first SF performance in what seems like forever. Here's one of their slowed-down, mellower tunes from the Cut Men EP that shows how far they're willing to stretch musically.

2. Pamela, "Lie Down (Eye Contact)"

Bay Area garage mavens Ashley Thomas and Courtney Gray used to be in The Splinters. Now, in kinda recently-formed Pamela, they're putting way more swagger and attitude into their songs. The band's first tape drops at their release party on Sept. 15 at Thee Parkside. Check out this spare, ominous warning to loser dudes.

3. Purling Hiss, "The Hoodoo"

Conjuring the scrappy rock n' roll sound of bands like MC5 or the Ramones, this Philly band helmed by a growling Mike Polizze is one to watch. He just released an EP entitled Lounge Lizards, but these songs are more anthems of down-and-out bar flies. Get ready to kick out the jams at his performance opening for fellow Philly outfit The War On Drugs at the Independent on Oct. 23. He might just steal the show.

4. The Mummies,"Stronger Than Dirt"

This ultra-legendary Bay Area garage band from the 90s broke up years ago, so whenever they play their insane one-off shows, it's an event you want to be in the very front row for. Yes, they're middle-aged men dressed in mummy garb, but they're still one of the wildest, messiest, loudest, funnest shows you'll ever see in the city. They play at the Knockout on Sept. 6.

Beyonce - 1+1 by zokerx

5.Beyoncé, "1+1"

Congratulations, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. You are about to birth one of the most talented children ever to walk the earth. We will forever dig the "November Rain"-esque guitar solo in this song.
