Jams We Love: 7x7's Weekly Playlist

By
For our column Jams We Love, we're turning you onto the songs that keep us going every day. We'll showcase a new playlist every week so you can start things off right.

M83 - Intro (Feat. Zola Jesus) by edin2sun

1. M83, "Intro", ft. Zola Jesus

Their Thursday show's been sold out for months and months and months. Tickets are currently on Craigslist for $100 or more. Why?! you might be asking. Well, the French electronic pop act helmed by Anthony Gonzalez puts such immense reverb on everything until it sounds so epic you can't help but sucked into the gorgeous vortex it creates.

GWAR "Penguin Attack" by Metal Blade Records

2. GWAR, "Penguin Attack"

In honor of guitarist Flattimus Maximus' (or Cory Smoot, as it appears on his birth certificate) sudden death last week of mysterious causes, we've been cranking up this song. These satirical metal gods continue to prove their ferocity though, because their show this Friday at the Regency Ballroom is still happening. March on, brave soldiers.

3. They Might Be Giants, "Birdhouse In Your Soul"

These nerdy alt rockers, who I became familiar with after my older sister started blasting their album Flood in her college days, play a free show at Amoeba Records on Haight Street this Sunday, the 13th. I'm not going to lie–I'm intrigued. Hopefully they're whip out this college radio classic in its zany glory.

Keep Shelly in Athens - Our Own Dream by Keep Shelly in Athens

4. Keep Shelly in Athens, "DIY"

Don't be food by the coyness of the vocals in Greek electro pop duo Keep Shelly in Athens, the undulating music underneath it all is where the power is. They're currently on their first-ever US tour, and make a stop at The Independent on the 9th.

Radiohead - Everything In Its Right Place by FidiasLothes

5. Radiohead, "Everything In Its Right Place"

In honor of their announcement today that they're crossing the pond for a US tour next spring (I can already hear hordes of people cheering at the news), we give you one of their most haunting classics.
