Witness aerial and pole dancers, hula hoop and trapeze performers, shimmy and twirl to the flowing sound arrangements of some of the most talented Bay Area musicians and Djs.

Sunday Skool is a new monthly series launching this Sunday that will bring notable artists in the local music, dance and entertainment industries to a single place—The Great Northern. Created by Jazz Mafia, the music collective led by Adam Theis, and Vau de Vire Society, the event promises to be an immersive experience fusing hip-hop, rap, indie and electro music with a burlesque extravaganza.

"A regular showcase of our Jazz Mafia / Vau De Vire collaboration has been something that I've been trying to work out for almost 2 years," said Adam Theis, Jazz Mafia founder and director. "Finding the right venue was perhaps the biggest hurdle and we couldn't be more happy to have found our home at The Great Northern, one of the most awesome music venues in the Bay Area. This Sunday Skool series will serve as a playground for our crews to premiere new pieces, form new artistic partnerships and to give the greater artistic community a place to congregate. Expect the unexpected but also, expect to be moved."

The night will kick off with Kid Beyond, vocalist, songwriter and producer, who will introduce his renowned live-looping work with his new full band project that combines blues, indie rock with future-bass electro. Then the Jazz Mafia ensemble and performers of Vau De Vire Society will put on a magnetic set with live music and a unique performance of contortionists, dancers and more.

"The freedom to express our art without boundaries is what lured us to the Bay, and is what we're now, more than ever, committed to perpetuate, providing people a safe haven to explore their freedom" says Mike Gaines, director of Vau de Vire Society.

Come 10pm the show will shift into afterparty mode with a slew of notorious Bay Area artists including Gift of Gab of Blackalicious, grammy-nominated Lateef the Truthspeaker of Guannam Projects, DJ Chief Xcel, Jazz Mafia and DJ Platurn, a 23 year veteran of the music industry.

"Performing with the Jazz Mafia is always great. Great musicians, great sensibilities, great performances. As deep music aficionados, we always end up performing rarer pieces—songs I almost never do live. It makes the performances special and singular. This show is no exception." says Lateef the Truthspeaker.
