Le Labo's Aroma Therapy Comes to Pacific Heights

By

Parisian perfumers Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi are at last sharing their nose for aromatics with San Francisco at the latest outpost of their impossibly chic boutique brand, Le Labo. Having cultivated their olfactory skills at Giorgio Armani Beauty before opening their first store six years ago in New York, the pair hones a modern, minimalist apothecary aesthetic in their sleek Fillmore Street space.

Handcrafted and concocted on demand in the store, Le Labo’s custom scents—such as Rose 31 or Bergamot 26—are displayed on antique lab carts and named for their dominant note and the total number of ingredients in each formula. The collection is composed of 12 primary scents made into perfumes, lotions, balms, massage oils, home fragrances, and candles presented in modest but beautiful wabi sabi packaging.

Choosy shoppers seeking customization will find it on the perfume labels, each personalized with the name of the customer and mixer. Cult followers range from SF interior designer Ken Fulk to fashion icon Alexa Chung, who both favor the Santal 26 candle. Look for a San Francisco–
exclusive scent coming soon: Eucalyptus 49.
