Get Out of Town

Greetings chums,

With sunny San Francisco days few and far between, I try as often as possible to escape our mad, fab, foggy city in search of sunshine. Palo Alto had been an unlikely place for me to venture to, until now. I recently discovered a hidden oasis down the 101—the Four Seasons Hotel in East Palo Alto, where the sun shines.

This new hotel, barely a year old boasts many good things—a fine restaurant and bar, modern art bursting from the walls at every turn and, the best thing of all, an outdoor pool. Yes folks, joy of joys the very thing we hardly ever get to enjoy in San Francisco, a swimming pool.  And here’s the best bit, anyone can enjoy the pool—just pay a $15 day fee and the pool, Jacuzzi and sun loungers are yours for the taking and for your sun-kissed enjoyment. Can you imagine enjoying lunch or cocktails under the sun by the pool?  Imagine no more.

The food on offer was awfully good. Prepped on the poolside bar-b-q, the fresh fish tacos were delectable. I washed them down with a cool, flavorful fruit smoothie.

The rooms here are brimming with style and feature all the comforts of a Four Seasons hotel; the most comfortable bed ever, a Jacuzzi tub, massive shower with power jets—a little slice of heaven. Though situated right off the freeway, the sound of traffic is but a distant hum.

A stay here is reasonable, too—$225 or so a night. They offer some attractive packages that include spa treatments and shopping passes at the nearby Stanford Shopping Center.

This Silicon Valley hideaway is still very much a secret, so if you’re looking for a peaceful, sunny escape less than an hour away from San Francisco, this is the spot. I highly recommend it and, hey, thanks to my afternoon by the pool, my pigment-challenged Anglo skin is now a darker shade of pale!

Cheers,
Liam
