Love + Sex

PRIDE Pool Party

Hundreds flocked poolside at the Phoenix Hotel to celebrate PRIDE 2007.

Women Talk About Sex

Whenever I tell people what I do, I always have to deal with those awkward first few minutes in which I’m certain they’re thinking one of following: Is she a prostitute? A slut? A sex maniac? Is she insane?

Once they understand that I have a talk show not about my sex life per se, but about those of other people, they want to know who’s my favorite guest.

For the record, I don’t have a favorite (nor I do play favorites with ice cream flavors, colors or vacation spots), but I do love the shows that I have with women just sitting around and talking about sex.

Alice 97.3 Brings on Summer

Every year, Radio Alice 97.3 kicks off summer with a music party in the park called Summerthing. This year it was something. Under blue skies, thousands of sun-kissed Alice listeners filled Golden Gate Park for an afternoon of music, food and fun.

Last Sunday's music bash in the park was a festive affair. The sound of headlining band Smash Mouth (see pics below) filled the air along with the summer smell of hot dogs, burgers and freshly cut grass.

A Russian Fairy Tale

The SF Symphony’s Opening Night Party was a dreamscape fantasy land inspired by Prokofiev’s fairy tale and symphonic opera, The Love for Three Oranges. The festivities kicked off with an opening performance of the June Festival, Russian Firebrand, Russian Virtuoso.

Steaks and Spirits

Jones, "an American comfort roadhouse featuring prime dry aged beef," celebrated its grand opening last week with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres cooked up by chef Jamaal Taherzadeh.

Let's Get It On

I went to a swinger party last weekend. Sure, I’ve been to a sex party, a party with swingers in attendance, but never to an official “this is a swinger party and we’re all here to swap asap” kind of party.

Only couples and single women are allowed to attend. I was invited by a couple who thought I might like to tag along. And so I did.

After the RSVP was accepted, the hosts sent out the address and some basic party instructions. We were told to show up at a Mission Street address around 10 p.m., doors would close at 12 a.m. and party was to go until 4 a.m.

The Night The Rock Rocked

Scion and Flavor Group hosted a wild party on Alcatraz Island where music by Flosstradamus and The Cool Kids collided with eco-friendly fashions, contemporary art and macabre performances by SF's Vau De Vire Society.

Dress for Success

"Success: You Wear It Well" was held at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel last Wednesday to benefit Dress for Success, a nonprofit promoting "the economic independence of disadvantaged women." Cocktails, live and silent auctions, and a special performance by Harry Denton's Sunday's a Drag girls rounded out the evening's events.

Lee Siegelson, president and owner of Siegelson (a third-generation New York estate jeweler), and Neiman Marcus held a luncheon for a select group of precious jewelry customers in the department store's Private Room. Guests were later taken to the Legion of Honor to tour the Masterpieces of French Jewelry show (to which Siegelson lent three pieces).
