New Leaf Turning

New Leaf, which serves lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning individuals along with their families, held its Spring Gala at the festive Teatro ZinZanni last week with celebrity guests comedienne Marga Gomez and singer/songwriter Mark Geigle as well as Katya Ludmilla Smirnoff-Skyy (accompanied by Trauma Flintstone) and Kielbasia (billed as "SF's favorite accordian playing lunch lady").

Honoring "Rock Stars" and CEOs

The Exploratorium's 30th Annual Awards Dinner honored a wide range of folks, from "rock star" (aka paleontologist) Ken Miller to Carol Bartz, former CEO of Autodesk. Nobel laureates rubbed elbows with corporate executives and high-society philanthropists including Stanford's Don Glaser, Intel's Paul Otellini, Mitzi Perdue (of Perdue chickens) and Bill and Ute Bowes.

Bay Area Gems

Maiden Lane's Manika Jewelry hosted the U.S. premiere of The Barlev Collection by Ehud Barlev, goldsmith and artist, a couple weeks back. Owners Monica and Peter Walsh typically showcase designers who live and work in and around the SF Bay Area.

Wine Tasting Benefit

The SF Board hosted the Fourth Annual Wine Tasting Party to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The event was held at the home of Sean and Jennifer Jeffries, who own the Four Seasons.

After nearly a 10-year absence from any West Coast store, Emanuel Ungaro is back at Neiman Marcus, which hosted a trunk show as part of the festivities celebrating the Paris fashion house's return to California.

Asim and Isha Abdullah, who took over the Paris fashion house Emanuel Ungaro at the end of 2005, threw an Ungaro Fashion Show after-party at their Pacific Heights pied-à-terre. (The fashion show kicked off the West Coast launch of the Ungaro line—after a 10-year absence and with new creative director Peter Dundas at the helm—at Neiman Marcus.)
