5 Ways to Celebrate Opening Day on the Bay

By

This Sunday marks Opening Day on the Bay, an annual celebration of the maritime community and the official opening day of the Northern California boating season. But don't worry, if you don't own your own boat and have no sailor friends, we've rounded up the best ways to still celebrate in style.

1. Board the Freda B.

Climb aboard the classic schooner Freda B with SF Bay Adventures for the weekend's festivities, which include the Blessing of the Fleet, a waterfront parade, and a sail around the bay. Tickets also include a lobster roll lunch, and there'll be the chance to throw one back at the cash bar. Plus, get 20 percent off the Freda B Ships Store includes t-shirts, wine glasses, and coffee mugs, so you can take home a momento.

Sunday, April 27, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., $99, 100 Bay St., Slip 907, Sausalito. Get tickets here

2. Drink a Beach Bar-Rita

If you can't get out on the water, drinking copious amounts of rum will make you feel the same effects. Poggio Trattoria in Sausalito is offering an exclusive Day on the Bay cocktail a "Beach Bar-Rita" which includes Sammy Hagar Beach Bar Rum, lime juice, agave, and orange juice. Order one (or two, or three) as you watch all the pretty boats sail by.

Sunday, April 27, All Day, 777 Bridgeway, Sausalito

3. Brunch on a Boat

Take in the sights of the San Francisco Boat Parade while enjoying a lavish brunch buffet, free flowing champagne, and live music on your own boozy cruise. The Champagne Brunch Cruise with Hornblower takes you on a two-hour tour of the bay (embarking from San Francisco) and includes free-flowing Champagne, a cash bar for wine, beer, and cocktails, a delicious brunch buffet, and some of the most scenic views of the Bay Area around.

Sunday, April 27, $72, boarding at 11:00 a.m., departs 11:30 a.m., On the Embarcadero at Washington St. Get tickets here

4. Watch the Parade From Pier 39

Sitting along the Embarcadero is always a treat on a sunny day, but this weekend you're in for something special. Snag a spot early for the Opening Day on the Bay parade, a magnificent and colorful showing of vessels on the water. The parade can be viewed along the San Francisco shoreline from Crissy Field to Pier 39.

Sunday, April 27, 12:00 - 3:00 p.m., Along the Embarcadero

5. Party at the San Francisco Yacht Club

Party it up (and pretend like you own a boat) at the San Francisco Yacht Club this weekend. There will be libations and dishes from Favorite Ports in a Storm (Noon - 7:00 p.m.), and live music from Dale Alstrom's Band, playing swing and rock classics to get your groove on. Come dressed to impress in nautical attire, because there will also be a best dressed competition, as well as a best dressed ship competition.

Sunday, April 27, $27, 12:00 - 7:00 p.m.
